“Breaking the Generational Cycles of Incarceration”
New Day Camp – Touching Hearts – Valentine’s Season 2021
In 2012 when Marlon was 8, his grandmother registered him for New Day Camp.
He attended every year and was soon joined by his two younger brothers.
Marlon was recently killed on his front lawn – the victim of a drive-by shooting. His grandmother tells us that Marlon learned to love and had accepted Jesus Christ into his life because of his relationships and experiences from New Day Camp.
We want as many children as possible to have this same life-changing experience from New Day Camp that Marlon experienced.
Depending on what’s happening in Oklahoma with COVID-19 in June, New Day Camp is scheduled for Thursday, June 10 through Thursday, June 17. In 2019, we had 15 graduated campers who came back as leaders; 9 as youth leaders and 6 as adult leaders. The camps are for children with one or both parents in a correctional facility.
New Day Camp is funded by donations…more like investments in young lives…from individuals, churches, Sunday School Classes, UMW/UMM groups, and corporations – all outside the connectional giving process. The approximate cost to participate in camp is $600 per child.
In additional to scholarships for the children, we also need some new or gently used bath towels, pillow covers and sheets, new hair brushes, insect repellant, deodorant, aerosol sunscreen, and children’s clothing. We always need volunteers for camp, as well.
Can you sponsor one or more children? Half a scholarship? We appreciate your prayerful support to partner with us to give each child a “New Day” and help them to see they are not the label society has put on them…and to break the generational cycles of incarceration.
